What We Made Together at the Veria Theatre Directing Workshop
From October 2025 to July 2026, I took part in the directing workshop of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Veria (DI.PE.THE. Verias). I joined to learn about a field I had not explored in depth before. What made the experience especially valuable was the chance to learn alongside others and bring some of my own creative skills into the room.
As we researched directors, prepared presentations and worked through practical exercises, I experimented with AI tools to support my learning. I used them to organise research, develop and refine directing scores, and create sounds and songs for class rehearsals. I also shared parts of that process with the group: what helped me understand an unfamiliar subject, what needed checking or changing, and how these tools could support an idea as it moved toward the stage.
The exchange worked both ways. Theatre made me think differently about timing, space, performance and the choices behind a scene. At the same time, I could contribute methods from my work in digital creation. The most interesting part was seeing what happened when those different experiences met in a shared exercise.
When the workshop ended, I volunteered to create a booklet bringing together our presentations and class notes. I wanted us to have something practical to return to, as well as a record of the year we had spent learning together. I took on the work of gathering, organising and designing the material, using AI tools where they helped me structure and edit it efficiently. The content came from the work we had done as a group.
I’m proud of the booklet (of 177 pages total including all of our presentations) because it gave our collective effort a lasting form. It is also a reminder of what a local creative workshop can make possible: people arriving with different knowledge, sharing it generously, and leaving with more than they could have made alone.
