Open Call to Artists in Veria: Co-creating a Public Art Action for 25 November

Open Call to Artists in Veria: Co-creating a Public Art Action for 25 November
Expressions of interest are open until 18 October 2026.For the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, I am initiating an independent collaborative art action in Veria and inviting local artists, makers and creative practitioners to help shape it.

The aim is to bring together different artistic practices, materials and perspectives to develop a shared public intervention. Rather than presenting a collection of separately produced works, I would like us to meet, exchange methods and create something collectively.

The final form has not been predetermined. It will depend on the people who participate, the practices they bring and the possibilities that emerge through the process.

Why a Collective Action

The idea grew from recent conversations with local creatives, which revealed a genuine interest in meeting, exchanging practices and developing something together in Veria. I am initiating and coordinating the action for 25 November, while its artistic direction and final form will be shaped collectively by the participating artists.

The aim is not to gather separate works under a common theme, but to explore what can emerge when different disciplines, materials and ways of thinking meet. Through group sessions, participants will exchange skills, experiment beyond their individual practices and develop a shared work. The process may also create new connections and future collaborations among artists and makers in the region.

The final work should extend beyond the participating group and create space for members of the public to engage rather than remain spectators. The exact form of this participation will be developed collectively, with the intention of bringing the subject into a shared civic space and allowing the community to contribute visibly to the action.

The First Conversations

The initiative is still at an early stage, but the first conversations have already begun.

I have spoken with Vasiliki Arelaki, founder of the handmade art and craft shop Medousso in Veria. Through her long-standing work with the association To Spiti tis Giagias Marikas, she has been involved in children’s puppet theatre, sewing workshops and other forms of creative expression. She has responded warmly to the initiative, and we have begun discussing how sewing and textile practices could contribute to a collective work.

These are starting points rather than a fixed plan. The project should remain open enough to evolve as more people, practices and ideas enter the process.

Who Can Take Part

The intention is to organise a small series of group meetings in Veria before 25 November. During these sessions, we will share ideas, explore the techniques and materials represented within the group and decide how they can be combined.

Participants will not be asked simply to complete individual pieces according to an assigned brief. The focus will be on co-creation, peer learning and experimentation across different disciplines.

Because the action addresses a serious and sensitive subject, the group will also establish a shared ethical framework. This will help us approach the creative process and any eventual public participation with care, respect and clear boundaries.

The final outcome may take the form of an installation, a participatory intervention or another shared experience. Its location, scale and precise format will be determined through the collaborative process.

The practical and financial framework has not yet been finalised, as it will depend on the number of participants, the proposed format, the materials required and the location. An expression of interest at this stage begins a conversation and is not a binding commitment. All practical details will be discussed transparently before participation is confirmed.

How to Express Your Interest

If you would like to take part, please get in touch by 18 October 2026.

You can write to hello@ennoiaart.com or contact Ennoia through social media.

Please include:

  • Your name and creative practice

  • A short introduction to your work

  • A website, portfolio or social media link, if available

  • A few words about why you would like to participate

  • Your general availability for meetings in Veria during late October and November

You do not need to submit a completed proposal. Ideas are welcome, but the purpose of the open call is to form the group first and allow the action to develop through a shared process.

A Shared Presence in Veria

Art cannot replace support services, education, policy or direct intervention. It can, however, occupy public space, interrupt indifference and make a shared position visible.

This initiative begins with art, but its purpose extends beyond the creation of an artwork. It is an opportunity to connect local creative practitioners, exchange knowledge and consider how different artistic practices can contribute to public awareness with responsibility and care.

I hope we can create something rooted in Veria, shaped collectively and open to the participation of the wider community. Not a collection of individual statements, but a shared act of presence.
