Feels surREAL for World Mental Health Day: A New Initiative in Veria
Last year, I tried something small with Feels surREAL. I created mental health awareness materials in Greek and English, shared printed pieces with people in my neighbourhood and among friends, and made digital flipbooks available online. It was a first experiment in taking the project beyond the places where people would normally encounter my art.
For World Mental Health Day on October 10, I’m preparing the next step. I want to bring Feels surREAL into more everyday spaces around Veria, where someone might come across an image or message without having searched for it.
I’m working on a new set of posters with messages focused on mental health, alongside updated printed materials. I plan to keep the cards and bookmarks I liked from last year’s experiment and am exploring small QR code stickers that would lead to the digital booklet. I’m also looking into placing materials in a few local shops and other accessible spots, and sharing them with SOFPSY Imathias, the local association supporting people affected by mental health difficulties and their families.
I’m producing this independently and covering the costs myself, so the number of prints will be limited. I still think it is worth doing. The first experiment helped me understand how to start; this one is a chance to see how the work connects with people beyond my immediate circle.
The preparations are underway. I’ll share previews of the materials soon, along with the confirmed locations where you’ll be able to find them in Veria.
